01Who we are

Not an agency. Not a freelancer. An engineering studio.

KOVUX is a small, senior practice that designs, secures and operates software systems that organisations depend on daily. We take a limited number of engagements so each one receives principal-level engineering from first sketch to production.

The studio was founded in Algeria and works across the Gulf. The philosophy is simple: architecture before code, security before launch, evidence before claims.

Achraf Mehloul, Founder and Principal Engineer of KOVUX

Achraf Mehloul

Founder & Principal Engineer — Algeria

Second place at the National Programming Competition, seven years building security-critical platforms, and the engineer personally accountable for every system KOVUX ships.

A freelancer

  • Task execution
  • Undocumented decisions
  • Single point of failure
  • Ends at delivery

KOVUX

  • Architecture and threat model first
  • Decision records, runbooks, diagrams
  • Reviewed, tested, reproducible delivery
  • Long-term ownership of the system

We start with the problem

Every engagement opens with a written problem statement, constraints and success metrics — before any technology is chosen.

We engineer, then prove it

Threat models, load tests and architecture reviews are part of the deliverable, not an optional extra.

We stay after launch

Systems are maintained, hardened and measured for years — the studio is accountable for what it ships.

02Capabilities

Eight disciplines, one engineering standard.

Every engagement runs through the same rigour: architecture review, threat model, implementation, verification.

Cybersecurity

Threat modelling, hardening, penetration testing and secure SDLC for regulated environments.

Artificial Intelligence

Applied ML, retrieval systems and decision automation built on auditable pipelines.

Cloud Infrastructure

Immutable infrastructure, zero-downtime delivery and cost-disciplined architecture.

Backend Engineering

Typed services, explicit contracts and data models that survive a decade of change.

Frontend Engineering

Accessible, fast interfaces built against strict performance and interaction budgets.

Full Stack Delivery

One team from schema to pixel, with measurable end-to-end ownership.

ERP Systems

Finance, inventory and operations platforms tailored to real workflows.

Automation

Event-driven orchestration that removes manual operational load.

IoT

Fleet telemetry, edge firmware and secure device provisioning at scale.

03Featured systems

Systems that carry real operational weight.

A small number of long-lived engagements, each with published architecture decisions and measurable outcomes.

Sentinel Grid — National logistics operator architecture visual
01National logistics operator

Sentinel Grid

Problem
Warehouse, fleet and identity systems produced isolated logs; incidents were discovered days late.
Solution
A security operations platform correlating 40M daily events into ranked, actionable detections.

Architecture

Event bus · Detection rules engine · Zero-trust access · Immutable audit log

  • Cybersecurity
  • Detection
  • Kubernetes
  • PostgreSQL

Mean time to detect reduced from 3 days to 6 minutes.

Atlas Cloud

Problem
Manual deployments across three regions caused drift, outages and unpredictable cloud spend.
Solution
A multi-region cloud foundation with policy-as-code delivery and guarded, repeatable releases.

Architecture

Terraform modules · Blue-green rollouts · Central secrets · Cost guardrails

  • Cloud
  • IaC
  • Observability
  • Go

99.98% measured availability, 31% lower infrastructure cost.

03Industrial manufacturing

Forge OS

Problem
Production planning ran on spreadsheets while 1,200 machine sensors reported into a dead end.
Solution
IoT and ERP convergence feeding a live planning core used on the shop floor every shift.

Architecture

MQTT edge gateway · Time-series core · ERP sync · Predictive maintenance models

  • IoT
  • ERP
  • AI
  • TypeScript

Unplanned downtime cut by 42% in the first two quarters.

04Engineering principles

How the studio decides.

Eleven non-negotiables applied to every system KOVUX designs, builds and operates.

01

Architecture first

Diagrams, boundaries and trade-offs are agreed before implementation starts.

02

Security by design

Threat models are written before the first line of production code.

03

Documentation is a deliverable

Decisions, runbooks and diagrams ship with the system.

04

Maintainability

The architecture a new engineer can explain is the one that survives.

05

Cloud native

Reproducible infrastructure, immutable artefacts, boring deployments.

06

Performance

Latency and resource budgets are set up front and enforced in CI.

07

Testing

Unit, contract and load tests gate every release — no exceptions.

08

Automation

If it is done twice by hand, it becomes a pipeline.

09

API design

Explicit contracts, versioning and no hidden coupling between services.

10

Scalability

Growth paths are proven with load evidence, not optimism.

11

Long-term thinking

We optimise for the system's fifth year, not its first week.

05Technology

A deliberately small, deeply known toolset.

Fewer technologies, mastered completely. Each choice is defensible in an architecture review.

Interfaces with strict performance budgets.
